“Life changing”

“First baby and I really wanted a home birth but my partner Adam still had fear around birth. That’s when I proposed the idea of a hospital birth with a doula. When we met Jess, we just knew she was the extra team member we needed to help us have a natural birth in hospital.”

  • “I was very lucky to have a low-risk pregnancy with no complications. George was 41 weeks and 3 days, we decided to trust our instincts and decline an induction, Jess really helped and her support during this time was incredible, without being overbearing or opinionated.

We had the birth of our dreams (natural without pain relief). Would it have happened without Jess? I genuinely believe I wouldn’t have had the positive outcome without the support of Jess. You have to do the work yourself but having Jess by your side – well you can’t put a value on it. The extra guidance and reassurance during birth is exactly what we needed, it was clear Jess had the experience and confidence, we are taught not to trust our bodies when we need to do the opposite in birth and Jess helps you have this confidence.

I’d highly recommend Jess in any circumstance, every woman giving birth should have access to a doula like Jess.”

“Only positive energy”

“I don’t know where to start… I was so lucky to have been recommended Jess as a doula. From the first meeting to having her with me the whole way through my birth, she was always just so calm and supportive, zero judgement and only positive energy.”

  • “I would highly recommend Jess’ service to any mum or new mum out there! Thank you so much for helping me bring our girl into this world ❤️”

    Nikki, Noosa

“Jess really went above and beyond”

“Initially, we weren’t going to have a doula – we had a private midwife and were hoping for a home birth which meant we would have her and another midwife present at the birth… I thought this would be all we needed.”

  • “As I learnt more about birth and also the role of the midwife, which is really to look after the medical side of things for the mother and the baby it became apparent to me that both myself and my partner, Felipe, would really benefit from having someone there for emotional support and also to have someone there earlier in the labour – midwives generally hold off on attending until you are quite along.

As soon as we met with Jess, we knew that we had found someone special. It is immediately obvious in her gentle, calm and reassuring manner that she is someone perfectly suited to birth support. Couple this with the fact that she is passionate about positive birth, amazingly knowledgeable on all things birth related and also has plenty of her own birth experience; we decided that she would be a wonderful addition to our birth team.

Jess really went above and beyond both in the lead up, during and post birth.

During the pregnancy, Jess attended our appointment to have our breech baby turned around at SCUH, she thoughtfully checked in on us and was always making sure we were feeling positive, she even leant me amazing books to read!

As soon as we called her during labour, she was there – and she really was an integral part of our baby being born successfully at home. I found her presence thoroughly reassuring and I also relaxed into the experience much more knowing that my beautiful and very empathetic partner could take brakes when he needed to whilst still knowing that I was being supported. I will never forget how good the yoghurt tasted that Jess fed me while labouring in the shower or how helpful her calming words were to allow me to trust that everything was unfolding perfectly.

Our little boy was born en caul (still in his amniotic sac) at home in Noosa at 8.55 am on Monday the 22nd of February 2021 and I will never forget how special the whole experience was – a big part of this was having the right people in the team.

Thank you, Jess from Sunny, Felipe and I for being your amazing self – we will never forget Sunny’s birthday – it will forever be one of our fondest memories.”

Common Questions

  • Yes, whether you're planning a home birth, hospital birth, or scheduled caesarean, this package is tailored to meet your specific requirements. I have successfully assisted numerous VBAC births and can provide specialised support for those pursuing this option.

  • Yes, I have extensive experience supporting high-risk pregnancies and can help create appropriate plans while working collaboratively with your healthcare providers. My comprehensive training ensures I can provide knowledgeable support throughout complex birth journeys.

  • While midwives provide clinical care and medical monitoring, I offer continuous emotional, physical, and informational support focused solely on your comfort and experience. Midwives often support multiple birthing women and have clinical responsibilities, whereas I remain exclusively with you throughout labour, offering uninterrupted support focused on your wellbeing and birth preferences.

  • Not at all. I enhance your partner's role by providing guidance, suggesting support techniques, and offering breaks when needed. Many partners report feeling more confident and useful with a doula present. During our antenatal visits, I'll help prepare your partner for their supporting role so we work as a cohesive team during labour.

  • Extensive research demonstrates that continuous doula support significantly reduces caesarean rates (by 39%), shortens labour duration, decreases pain medication requests, and improves birth satisfaction. Multiple studies show doula support reduces the likelihood of interventions while improving outcomes for both mother and baby.

  • I offer various evidence-based techniques including optimal positioning, counter-pressure, heat/cold therapy, relaxation guidance, breathing techniques, and comfort measures. I'll help you implement your preferred pain management strategies while remaining supportive of medical pain relief if needed. My approach adapts to your specific needs as labour progresses.

  • I remain your dedicated support person regardless of how your birth unfolds. If complications arise, I help explain procedures, support informed decision-making, maintain a calm environment, and continue providing emotional support. My experience with high-risk pregnancies means I'm prepared to support you through unexpected situations while working respectfully with your medical team.

  • I provide birth support services throughout the Sunshine Coast region, travelling to your home and birth location as needed.

  • Yes! Partner involvement is encouraged and an important part of this package. These sessions help create a strong birth team dynamic and ensure everyone understands your birth preferences. I'll specifically prepare your partner with practical techniques to support you during labour.

  • While official on-call status begins at 38 weeks, I make every effort to attend your birth even if it occurs earlier. I recommend booking your package by 30 weeks to ensure adequate preparation time, but I can often accommodate later bookings depending on availability.

  • We'll discuss various scenarios during our antenatal visits and create a flexible plan that can adapt to unexpected changes while still following your core preferences and values. My experience with diverse birth scenarios helps me provide consistent support regardless of how your birth unfolds.

  • Most Sunshine Coast hospitals welcome doulas as part of your support team. I have established relationships with local hospitals and understand their specific policies. During our antenatal visits, we'll discuss any particular requirements for your chosen birth location to ensure a smooth experience.

  • I recommend booking by 20-24 weeks to ensure availability, though earlier booking is advised during peak birth seasons. This timing allows us to build a strong relationship and fully prepare for your birth experience.

  • Once you're in established labour and ready for support, I'll arrive at your home within 60-minutes. We'll stay in close communication in the days leading up to birth so I can gauge your progress and arrive at the optimal time.

  • I remain with you for approximately 2 hours after birth to support initial bonding, breastfeeding initiation, and help you settle. I ensure you're comfortable and supported before leaving, and will follow up by phone the next day.

  • During these visits, we explore your birth preferences, address concerns, prepare comfort measures, practice labour positions, and develop strategies for your ideal birth. We'll create your birth plan, discuss potential scenarios, and build the connection needed for effective labour support. These visits also help familiarise your partner with their supporting role.

  • Yes, I can take photos/videos of your birth if desired. We'll discuss your preferences for documentation during our antenatal meetings. While not professional photography, many clients value having these memories captured by someone who understands the significance of these moments.

  • The postpartum visit takes place in your home within 1-2 weeks after birth. We'll discuss your birth experience, address any breastfeeding or newborn care questions, check on your physical and emotional recovery, and connect you with additional resources if needed. This visit provides valuable closure to your birth journey.

“If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it.”
